Taking my pension.

We’ll automatically contact you with details of your retirement options when you’re seven months from turning 65 (or age 60 if you joined the Scheme on or before 31 December 1995).

It's important to make sure we always have your current contact details so that you receive your quote on time. You can check the contact details we hold for you by logging into your pension account on the Portal.

Get a quote

If you want to get a quote for your pension before we get in touch, you can do this by logging in to your pension account on the M&S Pension Scheme Portal and using the Retirement Illustrator.

The Retirement Illustrator provides the main options for taking your pension from the Scheme and tells you how much you might receive at your chosen retirement date. It’s available 24/7 and you can run as many retirement calculations as you wish.

You can find a step by step guide on how to use the Retirement Illustrator here.

Tell us you want to retire.

Once you’ve decided on a retirement date that works for you and you’d like a retirement pack so that you can take your pension, contact the Pensions Administration Team. It normally takes about five working days to issue a quote. It may take longer if the calculation of your pension is more complicated or we’ve had a much higher number of requests than we would normally expect to receive.

Please note that if you paid Additional Voluntary Contributions (AVCs) into the M&S AVC Scheme, the final value of these benefits will not be known until your AVCs have been disinvested.

Your retirement journey.

To show you how the retirement process works from start to finish, we’ve put together a retirement timeline. This will help you to understand how long it takes to get your pension into payment, and what you need to do to make it happen.
